Day 5 – Excursion to Lindos

Today’s excursion went towards Lindos.. which is also Rhodes hottest city. The bsu was supposed to pick us up at four o’clock in the afternoon, so we took the opportunity to swim in both the sea and our pool.

To get some food in it, we walked towards Ialyso’s main street, where we sat down to eat some Greek. Hanna took a chicken souvlaki, which according to her was the best she ever eaten. Even my stifado wasn’t bad either.

Then came the bus and after we picked up a little more people, the guide Mike went with us towards Lindos. Very nice town from the outside, where you see it lying against the mountain with all the white houses. And we aimed at Lindos Acropolis, to enjoy the view that one should get up there.

It has many small alleys and we hardly found out of town to come to this one who took us up. It was steep and narrow and in the incredible heat, we both sweated like never before.

When we were up, it felt like we were doing the craziest workout in a sauna! Then the sweat ran, but the view was paid for all the effort. Fantastic view of the sea, city and landscape!

Hanna has finally seen an Acropolis in reality and the pillars are really nice. From seeing them in real and not just in picture, it’s a big difference.

Then came the most difficult task of the day.. to find back in the village!

It was easier said than done, and we went astray several times and even with attempts to be smarter of using Google Maps went not so well. Ask for help was more entertaining, so the residents of the city pointed in different directions when we asked for the same destination. Navigating to the sun and trying to see the Acropolis somewhere in the distance, it went well so we finally managed to find the right one!

Finally, we ate a good barbecue dinner at the restaurant Skala which is at the bottom of the water. We had very good company from a couple (Birgitta and Ulf) who had a 41-year-old marriage and there were many laughs.

Then it was time to think about ending the day and the bus left for the hotel from a nearby beach, where we took a short boat trip. Nice finish on a nice day!
